Hello, I am Makhi Ettienne-Modeste, the 2022 Kid Governor -- and this is my first blog post!
I am so excited to be your Kid Governor! A little bit about me: I participate in lots of sports including basketball, football, and soccer, but I also enjoy playing with my dogs, Blue and Paco! I like playing checkers, reading, and spending time with friends and family. My leadership qualities include being empathetic, outgoing, patient, and most importantly loving.
I ran for Kid Governor on my platform of Protecting Our Pets. It is about stopping animal abuse and showing kindness towards companion animals. I chose this platform because I love animals. I know that animal abuse happens everyday and it is frustrating that it doesn’t stop. I never want to see a pet or companion animal hurt. Running for Kid Governor gave me a chance to educate fifth graders about animal cruelty, how to prevent it, and how to show kindness to our companion animals. I campaigned on a three-point platform:
1. Educate Connecticut 5th graders about the signs of animal abuse and showing kindness towards companion animals.
2. Create posters that raise awareness of showing kindness towards companion animals.
3. Donate to shelters to help animals that have been abused.
As Kid Governor, I also work with a Cabinet. My Cabinet includes the other 6 finalists from the Kid Governor election, and they will also be writing blog posts this year! I hope you will also take some time to learn about my Cabinet members and their platforms, which are very important. I am so happy to be the 2022 Kid Governor and look forward to working with Connecticut 5th graders this year. Together, we can make a big difference in our state and help many animals who need us!
I want to hear from my constituents! If you are making a difference in your community -- whether you're showing kindness to pets and companion animals or doing anything else to make a positive change -- please email me at Makhi@CT.KidGovernor.org. You can also reach out to my Cabinet at Cabinet@CT.KidGovernor.org.
That’s all for now, make sure to stay tuned for more blog posts from me and my Cabinet!
